About Effects Interiors

169_webCompany founder Suzanne Mansell is passionate about colour. Originally trained as a printer – hence her close attention to detail – she decided to pursue her more creative and artistic side by taking a diploma course in specialist paint finishes at Nottingham University in the mid-1990s.

Having qualified as both a specialist paint finisher and an applicator in polished plaster, she set up Effects Interiors in 1998. Since then, the company has undertaken a wide range of commissions, both for businesses and other commercial premises such as restaurants, as well as private homes.

She puts her success down to her willingness to work with clients, rather than dictate what they need. “My role is to listen to what clients want and interpret their ideas,” she says. “I’m driven by a meeting of minds, not by what’s in vogue and I find people really value our flexible approach.”

Typical projects start with a consultation and review of the relevant area, after which the effects interiors team will produce a series of sample boards and colour palettes for customers to look at in different lights and times of day. Samples of different textured finishes will be provided and bespoke colour matches to pick out individual themes or elements of existing furnishings can be supplied.

“With private commissions, most people have an idea of what they want, or at least what they don’t want,” added Suzanne. “Sometimes they’ve seen an article in a magazine which they want to use as a theme, other times they only have a vague plan and are happy for us to add the inspiration to bring their ideas alive. We take real pride in our work and it’s fantastic to see just how delighted our clients are when the work is finished.”
