Scandinavian Style

When Chris and Christine Plews moved into their modern Scandinavian style house just outside Oxford, they were bowled over by its sense of space but less so by its woodchip wallpaper. With floor to ceiling windows in the conservatory area and a wooden gallery overlooking the open plan living area they knew the house had plenty of potential to look absolutely stunning.

Suzanne Mansell’s solution was to introduce the couple to the concept of polished plaster, which provided excellent covering for the fibreboard surfaces beneath the ugly woodchip and enhanced the home’s contemporary and modern look.

“We really liked Suzanne’s sample boards and her ideas with colour and design,” said Chris. “Polished plaster provides a very fresh, bright and clean look and combines the benefits of looking like a painted surface but it is textured and very hard wearing, so ideal for a young family. The reflective surface of the plaster really adds to the feeling of light and space and it’s easy to keep clean.”

As well as using her specialist techniques on the walls in the main living areas and the bedroom, Suzanne also took charge of other essential works. This included refurbishing key items of furniture to match the new look and she also organised professional plumbers to hide pipework for the couple’s central heating system.

Praising Suzanne’s project approach, Chris added: “Dealing with Suzanne means listening to her ideas, making quick decisions and letting her manage the overall task. When you’re busy you want someone who can do all that for you and she did a fantastic job.”
